Researchers

Based in Barcelona, the researchers at the observatory have expertise in quantum optics, the history and sociology of science and technology, digital analytics, and consumer behaviour. We work on a range of projects to offer new ways to think about emerging quantum technologies and artificial intelligence.

Our research team

Dr. Eóin Phillips

Principal Co-Investigator

Dr. Osvaldo Jiménez Farías

Principal Co-Investigator

Osvaldo is a physicist specialised in Quantum optics and its applications to Quantum Information. He has worked in both experimental and theoretical aspects of these fields for more than 15 years.

Eóin is an historian and sociology of science and technology. His researches explores the economic and political impacts of calculative technologies and regimes through their socio-material practices, from the eighteenth century to the present day.

More about Eóin's research can be found here.

Dr. Maryam Vaziri
Researcher

Maryam Vaziri professor and researcher in the Smart Society Research Group at La Salle-URL and a contributing researcher to the observatory as an applied research expert. She is particularly involved the Quantum Mapping research line of the observatory.

Maryam holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Management (IDEM) and a Master’s of Applied Research in Economy and Business from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), along with an MBA from JNTU, India.

Maryam's teaching encompasses various subjects such as Technology Transfer to Economy, International Digital Marketing, and Digital Analytics and her research interests include consumer behavior in the digital era, sustainable consumption, and the intersection of AI and consumer behavior.

Arnau Demergasso
Graduate Research Assistant

Arnau Demergasso is a graduate research assistant at the Observatory.

He joined the observatory in 2023 and since then has been contributing to the Quantum Mapping and Quantum Revolutions research areas.

Arnau holds a Bachelor of Philosophy, specialising in social, ethical and political research. He has a particular interest in totalitarian through its social and historical context.

Since 2024 he has taught 'Modern Social Thought: STS', which is a second-year MBT course that analyses the social, economic and political framework that shapes technological and scientific progress through an STS approach.

Nelly Canessa Araujo
PhD Researcher

Nelly Canessa Araujo is a PhD candidate in the Smart Societies Research Group at La Salle-URL and a contributing researcher to the observatory.

Nelly's research is focused on responsible innovation and the governance of emerging technologies.

Nelly joined the observatory in 2022 as a research intern. Since then has been contributing contributing to the Quantum Mapping and Responsibility Innovation research areas.
